Chapter 1

1 This is the book of the genealogy of Jesus, “The Christ” the Son of David, the Son of Abraham;

2 Abraham was the father of Isaac; and Isaac was the father of Jacob; and Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers;

3 And Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah, born of Tamar; now Perez was the father of Hezron; and Hezron was the father of Ram;

4 And Ram was the father of Amminadab; and Amminadab was the father Nahshon; and Nahshon was the father of Salmon;

5 And Salmon was the father of Boaz, born of Rahab; and Boaz was the father of Obed, born of Ruth; now Obed was the father of Jesse;

6 And Jesse was the father of David, the king; and David was the father of Solomon, born of her who had been Uriah’s;

7 And Solomon was the father of Rehoboam; and Rehoboam was the father of Abijah; and Abijah was the father of Asa;

8 And Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat; and Jehoshaphat was the father of Jehoram, and Jehoram was the father of Uzziah;

9 And Uzziah was the father of Jotham; and Jotham was the father of Ahaz; and Ahaz was the father of Hezekiah;

10 and Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh; and Manasseh was the father of Amon; and Amon was the father of Josiah;

11 And Josiah was the father of Jeconiah and his brothers, about the time of the Babylonian captivity. a

12 After the Babylonian captivity, Jeconiah fathered Sheatiel; and Sheatiel was the father of Zerubbabel;

13 And Zerubbabel was the father of Abihud; and Abihud was the father of Eliakim; and Eliakim was the father of Azor;

14 And Azor was the father of Zadok; and Zadok was the father of Akim; and Akim was the father of Elihud;

15 And Elihud was the father of Eleazar; and Eleazar was the father of Matthan; and Matthan was the father of Jacob

16 And Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom was born Jesus, who is called The Christ.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the Babylonian captivity, are fourteen generations; and from the Babylonian captivity to The Christ are fourteen generations.

18 Now the birth of The Christ was thus: there was a betrothal of His mother Mary to Joseph, but before they had been together, she was found to be with Child of the Holy Spirit.

19 Now Joseph her betrothed, was a righteous man, and did not wish to bring her public disgrace, so he planned to put her away privately.

20 But as he thought upon these things, behold! The Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, Son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife; for that which is within her is born of the Holy Spirit.

21 She will bring forth a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins”

22 Now all this took place in order to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord, through the prophet Isaiah,1 saying,

23 “Behold, a virgin will be with child, and give birth to a Son, and they will call Him by the name Immanuel”2 (which is interpreted as, “God with us”)

24 Joseph, now awakening from his sleep, did as he was commanded by the Angel of the Lord, and took Mary as his wife.

25 But he was unwilling to know her until after she had given birth to her firstborn Son; and they called Him by the name Jesus.

Chapter 2

1 Now before Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem,

2 asking, “Where is the one who will be born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and have come to pay Him homage”

3 But upon hearing this King Herod was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 So he assembled the high priests and the scribes of the people, to inquire of them where the Christ would be born.

5 And they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is written through the prophet Micah;

6 ‘And you, Bethlehem house of Ephrathah, although you are small to be among the clans of Judah, out of you will come the Leader of Israel; whose ways will endure forever’1a b

7 So Herod called the wise men privately, to inquire the exact time they had noticed the star.

8 Then he sent them towards Bethlehem, saying, “Go, search out the Childs exact location, and after you have found Him, bring word to me, so that I also may come and present Him offerings”

9 After hearing the king, they departed; and behold! The star which they had seen in the east, led the way before them until it came and stood above the Child.

10 After seeing the star, they rejoiced with a very great joy.

11 then they entered into the house and saw the Child with His mother Mary; and fell down in reverence before Him. And opening what was stored, they presented Him offerings of gold, frankincense, and Myrrh.

12 But having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country by another road.

13 And after they withdrew, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Rise up! Take the Child and His mother and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod will seek the Child to kill Him”

14 As soon as he awoke, he took the Child and His mother by night and fled into Egypt.

15 And they stayed there until the conclusion of Herod’s order; to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet Hosea, saying, “When Israel was a child I loved him, so from out of Egypt I called My Son”c 2

16 Once Herod realized that he had been scorned by the prophets, he was greatly enraged. So he commanded the annihilation of all male children in Bethlehem and in all of its boarders, from two years old and younger, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men.

17 At that time what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, saying, 3

18 “An outcry is heard in Rama, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, for they are no more”4

19 But after the death of Herod, behold! The Angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 saying, “Rise up, take the Child, and His mother and travel into the land of Israel; for those who sought the Child’s life are dead”

21 So he rose up, took the Child and His mother, and went into the land of Israel.

22 But upon hearing that Archelaus reigned in Judea in the stead of his father Herod, there he became afraid and turned back. And after being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the regions of Galilee.

23 And he went and settled in a city named Nazareth. In order to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets who said, “He shall be called a Nazarene”5

Chapter 3

1 Now in those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

2 saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near!”

3 For this is the prophecy spoken through the prophet Isaiah, saying, “A voice crying out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord. Make His paths straight!’1”

4 As for him, John’s clothing was made from camel’s hair, with a girdle of animal skin around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

5 At that time all of Jerusalem was going out to him, as with all of Judea, and every region surrounding the Jordan,

6 and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

7 But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees had come to a baptism, he said, “You brood of vipers! Who forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?

8 Because of this produce fruit consistent with repentance,

9 and do not think to say within yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as a father’ For I tell you, that God is capable of using even these stones to raise the children up unto Abraham.

10 And even now the axe is at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not produce good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

11 For truly, I baptize you with water into repentance; but after me comes One mightier than I, whose sandals I’m unworthy to bear. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire,

12 whose winnowing fan is in His hand. And He will thoroughly cleanse His threshing floor; then gather His wheat into the storehouses, but He will burn the chaff in the everlasting fire”

13 At that time Jesus came from the land of Galilee unto the Jordan River to see John, to be baptized by him.

14 But John refused Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by you, yet you come to me?”

15 But in response to him Jesus said, “Permit this at once, for this is the way proper for us, to fulfill every righteousness” Then he permitted Him.

16 And after being baptized, at once Jesus rose up out of the water; and behold! The heavens were opened and he saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove, and surrounding Him in light.

17 Then suddenly! A voice from the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I Am well pleased”

1. Isaiah 40:3 - DSS - 225-125 B.C.

Chapter 4

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

2 After fasting forty days, and forty nights, then He was starving.

3 And the tempter came, saying, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be turned into bread”

4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man will not live by bread alone, but by ever word that proceeds from the testimony of God’1

5 Then He was taken by the devil unto the holy city and he set Him above the pinnacle of the temple,

6 And said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will command His angels concerning you’;2 And ‘They shall carry you up in their hands, lest your foot strike against stone’3

7* Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’4a

8 Once again, the devil took Him atop a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the earth and their glory,

9 and he said to Him, “All these things I will give to you; after you have fallen to worship me”

10 But Jesus said to him, “Be gone satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only’5”

11 Then the devil left Him; and behold! Angels came and ministered to Him.

12 But when Jesus heard that John had been imprisoned, He departed into Galilee.

13 And left behind Nazareth, coming to settle in Capernaum beside the sea, within the boundaries of Zebulon and Naphtali;

14 in order to fulfill the words of the prophet Isaiah, saying,

15 “The land of Zebulon and The land of Naphtali will be greatly honored, the way through sea, across the River Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.6

16 The people who dwell in darkness will see a great light, those who walk in the desert of the shadow of death, a light will shine upon them”7

17 From that time on, Jesus began to minister and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near!”

18 Now while Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

19 And He said to them, “Come, follow Me and I will make you fishers of men”

20 And at once they forsook their nets, and followed Him.

21 And going from there, He saw another two brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father tending their nets and He called them.

22 And immediately the brothers left the boat and their father to follow Him.

23 Then Jesus led them throughout all of Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and proclaiming the good tidings of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of infirmity among the people.

24 And word of Him spread throughout all Syria; and they brought Him all those who were sick, having various diseases and those being oppressed by afflictions, along with the demonically possessed, and the moonstruck, and the lame; and He healed them.

25 Then great multitudes followed Him from Galilee and Decapolis, and Jerusalem and Judea and beyond the Jordan River.

Chapter 5

1 After looking upon the multitudes, He went up on the mountain; and settled Himself, followed by His disciples.

2 And opening His mouth, He taught them, saying,

3 “Blessed are the lowly in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the humble: for they shall inherit the land.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall receive mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when they insult and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely, for the sake of righteousness.1

12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven; for in this same way they persecuted the prophets who came before you.

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its saltiness, what man is able to restore its salt? Unto the point it is no longer good, aside from being cast out and trampled down by mankind.

14 You are the light of the world. A city standing atop a mountain cannot be hidden;

15 no man lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl, instead they place it on a lampstand, and it gives light unto all those in the house.

16 In this way let your light shine in the presence of mankind, so that they might learn of your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

17 Do not believe that I came to end the law or the prophets; I have not come to end them, but to fulfill them.

18 For truly I tell you: until after the skies and the earth pass away, not the smallest letter, not even a brushstroke shall pass away from The Ten Commandments until everything has been accomplished.

19 Therefore if anyone removes one of the least of these commandments and teaches humanity accordingly, they shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but if anyone fulfills them and teaches them, they shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.2

20 For I tell you that unless within you abounds a righteousness greater than the scribes and the Pharisees, you will never enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21 You have heard that it was commanded unto the ancients, ‘You shall not murder’;3 For whoever murders will be subject to divine judgment. 4 a

22 But I tell you that anyone who is provoked to violence by their brother shall be liable to divine judgment, and whoever says to his brother ‘You worthless rag’b shall be subject before the council and anyone who says, ‘You idiot!’ will be in danger of the hell of fire.

23 So if you are presenting your offering before the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you,

24 leave your offering there at the altar and go; first be reconciled with your brother, and then come and present your offering.

25 Be agreeable with your adversary quickly, while you are with them upon the way, or else your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge5 to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

26 Truly I tell you, you will not leave that place until you have paid the utmost cost.

27 You have heard that it was commanded unto the ancients, ‘You shall not commit adultery’6

28 But I say to you that whoever looks upon a woman lustfully has already committed adultery within their own heart.

29 Therefore if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it away from you; for it is better that one of your members perish, rather than having your whole body be thrown into hell.

30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it away from you; for it is better that one of your members perish, rather than having your whole body be thrown into hell.

31 And it was said, whoever divorces his wife ‘Shall write her a certificate of divorce’7

32* But I tell you, that whoever divorces their spouse, except on account of sexual immorality, makes themself into an adulterer; and whoever divorces to enter a marital relationship commits adultery.

33 Again, you have heard that it was commanded unto the ancients, ‘You shall not swear falsely by My name’8 but, ‘fulfill your vows to the Lord’c

34 But I say to you do not swear at all, not by heaven, for that is the throne of God,

35 nor by the earth, for it is the resting place for His feet, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.

36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you are unable to turn a single hair white or black.

37 But let your words be ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ anything more than this is wickedness.

38 You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and tooth for tooth’9

39* But I say to you, do not match wits with evil; but whoever slaps you on the right cheek, turn unto them also the other.d

40 And to the one who wishes to sue you and take your cloak, also leave them your tunic.

41 And whoever charges you to walk a mile with them, walk with them two.

42 Give unto the one who asks, and those who wish to borrow from you, do not turn away.

43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy’x

44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray on behalf of those who mistreat you;

45 So that you might become the children of your Father in heaven; for He causes the sun to rise upon the evil and the good, and sends rain upon both.

46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Do not even the commoners do the same?

47 For if you love only your brothers, what greater things have you done? Nothing at all, even the gentiles do this.

48 Therefore, you are to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect”

Chapter 6

1 “And be careful not to practice your righteousness for mankind to be seen by them; if you do, you shall have no reward from your Father who is within the heavens.1

2 And when you give charity, do not sound a trumpet before you, like the hypocrites do in their synagogues and in the streets in order to be honored by mankind. Very truly I tell you, they have their reward in full.

3 But when you practice charity, do not let your left hand know the works of your right.

4 So that you give charity in the way of the hidden; then your Father who sees what is hidden afterward, may reward you.

5 And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love the material things in their synagogues, and pray in the street corners to be seen by mankind. Truly I tell you, they have their reward.

6 But when you pray, go into your inner room and shut the door, and pray to your Father who is within the hidden, then your Father who sees what is hidden, may reward you.

7 And when you pray do not ramble on like the hypocrites do, because they think that on account of their many words they will be heard.

8 So do not be like them; for God your Father knows what you have need of before you ask Him.

9 But in a manner similar to this you are to pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us the bread necessary for this day.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also are forgiving to our debtors.1

13 And let us not be led into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the glory, and the power forever. Amen’

14 For if you are forgiving towards mankind and their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also be forgiving towards you.

15 But if you are not forgiving towards mankind, neither will your Father be forgiving towards you.

16 And when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, appearing downcast, for they disfigure their faces in order to appear to be fasting unto men. Truly I tell you they have their reward.

17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

18 so that your fasting shall not be unto mankind, but unto your Father who is hidden; and your Father who sees within the hidden, may reward you.

19 Do not store up treasures for yourself upon the earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

20 Instead store up your treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy, and where thieves cannot break in and steal;

21 for where your treasure is, there also is your heart.

22 The lamp of the body is the eye; so then if your eye is focused, your whole body will be full of light.

23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light which is within you is the darkness, how vast that darkness is!

24 No one can serve two masters; for you will hate one and love the other, holding in devotion to one, but despising the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon a

25 Because of this I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or the body, what you will wear; no, in life there are greater things than food, the body and clothing.

26 Look at the birds of the sky, they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into storehouses, yet your heavenly Father provides for them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27 And which of you by worrying can add a single cubit to your height?

28 And why worry about what you will wear? Look upon the flowers of the field, how they grow; they do not faint nor spin,

29 but I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor clothed himself like one of these.

30 Therefore if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow cast into the oven, will He not clothe you in far greater? O'ye of little faith.

31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’

32 For the gentiles seek after all these things; and God your Father knows that you need all these things.

33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things shall be added unto you.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, rather let tomorrow worry about itself, for sufficient in a day are its troubles”

1. The Mt.Sinai Bible - 300-400 A.D.

a. mammon: defined as, "a son of the devil" or, "the spiritual manifestation of the worship of money"

Chapter 7

1 “Do not pass judgment, lest you be judged.

2 For with the judgment you judge, you will be judged; and in the way you measure others, it will be measured unto you.

3 And why are you looking at the speck in your brother’s eye, while there is a plank in your own eye that you will not consider?

4 Or else how will you be able say to your brother, ‘Brother cast the speck out of your eye’ without considering the plank in your own eye?

5 Hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you shall see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

6 Do not give something sacred to the dogs, nor put forth your pearls in the presence of the pigs, lest they trample them under their feet and turn, tearing you to pieces.

7 Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door shall open to you. a

8 For whoever asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds, and unto those who knock, the door shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there among you, when asked by his son for bread will give him a stone?

10 So then if asked for a fish, do not give a serpent.

11 And if you, being morally fallible, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much greater will your Father who is in heaven give good things unto those who ask Him.

12 Therefore, all things that you should have mankind do unto you, in like manner do you also unto them, for this sums up the law and the prophets.

13 Enter in through the narrow gate; for broad and wide is the road that leads into destruction and there are many who will enter through it.

14 But narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads into life, and there are few who find it.

15 Beware of lying prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are rapacious wolves.

16 By their fruits you will recognize them. Grapes cannot be gathered from the thorns, nor figs from thistles.

17 Thus, every good tree brings forth good fruit, but an evil tree brings forth evil fruit.

18 No good tree brings forth evil fruit, nor does an evil tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

20 So then you will know them by their fruits.

21 Not everyone who prays to Me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of My Father who is in heaven.

22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out many demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

23 At that time I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice unrighteousness’

24 Because of this, whoever hears these teachings of Mine and puts them into practice, shall become like a wise man who built his house upon the rock.

25 Afterward the rain descended, and the floods came, and the storm blew against the house; but it did not fall, for its foundation was within the rock.

26 But whoever hears these teachings of Mine and does not put them into practice, will become like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.

27 Afterward the rain descended, and the floods came, and the storm blew and struck against the house and it fell, and grave was its fall”

28 And it came to pass after Jesus had finished these teachings, those of the multitudes were astonished by His doctrine;

29 because He taught them as one having authority, and not as one of the scribes.
